Questions, answered
Is it really free?
Yes. TalkingDot is free forever — no trial that expires, no credit card and no per-seat pricing. Every feature you see on the features page is included, with unlimited teammates and conversations. Fair-use limits on attachment size and file storage keep the service sustainable; see pricing.
How do I add live chat to my website?
Create a free account, copy your snippet from Settings → Install and paste it before the closing </body> tag. It is one line of code. There are step-by-step guides for WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Google Tag Manager and React.
Can my whole team use it?
Yes — invite as many teammates as you like. Everyone works from the same real-time inbox with assignment, teams, internal notes, @mentions and saved replies. Roles (owner, admin and agent) keep settings in the right hands.
Will the messenger slow down or break my site?
No. The script loads asynchronously, so it never blocks your page, and the messenger renders inside Shadow DOM, so your site's CSS can't break it and its styles can't leak into your site.
Does the messenger use cookies? Is it GDPR-friendly?
The messenger sets no cookies — it keeps a visitor token in the browser's local storage. You choose whether visitor IP addresses are stored in full, truncated or not at all, you can auto-delete old conversations, and you can export or erase any contact's data. Read more in Security, privacy & GDPR and our data processing addendum.
Does it have chatbots and a help center?
Yes, both are included. Build chatbot flows with buttons that collect details and hand off to your team, let the answer bot suggest help-center articles, and publish a searchable help center on its own SEO-friendly site. See chatbots and help center.
Can I connect it to my own systems?
Yes. There is a REST API, signed webhooks with automatic retries, a JavaScript API for the messenger, and notifications in Slack, Discord and Telegram.
Can I self-host it?
TalkingDot is a plain PHP 8.1+ and MySQL application that runs on ordinary hosting — no WebSockets, Node.js or Redis required. If you would like to run it on your own server, get in touch.
